1940 Born as twins in Osaka. 1960 Won the Golden Award and the Special Award
at the National Exhibition of Sightseeing Posters. 1962 Graduated from the design department at Tama
Art College. Published a hand-printed picture book "Shibaten" during
his college years. 1965 The first private exhibition of his art work
at Nantenshi Gallery. Published his first picture
book, "Furuyanomori." 1971 "Shibaten" was published by a publisher. 1974 Won the fifth Kodansha Publication Culture
Award with "Fukimanbuku." Submitted to the first "Hitohito Exhibition: the Black
Sun Seven Artists" as an establishing
member of the Hitohito Society, from which he withdrew
in 1992. 1975 Published gYaginoshizukah or gShizuka
the Goat,h which gained public favor, but
went out of print. (Later published from Kaiseisha after largely
redrawn.) Started struggling to destroy his previous style and create a new
style. 1980 Broke a new ground with his new style in
gHora, Ishikorogaokkochitayo. Ne, Wasureyouyoh or gHey, a Pebble Fell. Well, Letfs Forget.h 1989 Won the Nippon Picture Book Award with gTobebattah
or gLeap, Grasshopper.h 1990 Won the Shogakkan Picture Award and Illustratorfs
Yearbook Award with gTobebatta.h Started fighting against the construction
of a large waste repository in Hinode Town,
and joined the movement for protecting Hinode
Forest from destruction and chemical pollution, and conducting its environmental conservation
activities. (The fight is still going on.) 1992 Published his autobiographical essay, gEnonakanobokunomurah
or gMy Village in the Picture,h which was made into a movie directed
by Youichi Higashi in 1996 and won a Silver Bear at Berlin International Film
Festival. 1998 Developed a cancer caused by chemicals from
the waste repository and moved to Izu Peninsula. Started creating art works using natural
materials from the Hinode Forest. 2003 Published a collection of his art works made

Yukihiko, at the Museum of Art, Kochi, and also at Niitsu Art Forum in Niigata in 2007. 2008 Exhibition of the original drawings of his
picture books at the Hiratsuka Museum of
